Eliquis, with the active ingredient apixaban, is an oral factor Xa inhibitor that helps prevent the formation of blood clots. It works by blocking a key enzyme (factor Xa) involved in the blood coagulation process, reducing the risk of clot-related conditions such as stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary embolism (PE). Eliquis is commonly prescribed for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and is also used for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of DVT and PE.
